Reminiscing Adolescence: A Collection of Childhood Memories

This is my BA graduation project which consists of eight moving illustrations and one static illustration. The moving illustrations feature 2D animation to give a sense of time and bring them to life.
All illustrations are based on personal childhood memories. They feature quiet scenes of characters in everyday life. This project is meant to make people think about their own childhood and maybe even inspire to share their own happy memories through art.
I used Krita for illustrating and animating 2D frame by frame and After Effects for further animation and compositing.
Alone, not Lonely.

This was a uni project for which we got to pick one of three words, for which I chose „Home“, and use podcasts and similar resources to come up with a project.
The idea was to make a small graphic novel, concerning the theme of „feeling at home with oneself“. It features a character, who enjoys alone time, as well as being with friends.
For this project I used Krita to draw the Illustrations, and Adobe Indesign to put in fonts and make a printable layout.
Chocolate Penguin Bookcover: Skellig

This was project was for uni, since there was no Penguin Bookcover Competition in the year of 2022, we still got to work with the prompts they provided. I chose Skellig for the childrens book category.
I used Autodesk Sketchbook for Android, Adobe Indesign and made my own font for this cover.
Mochi

This animated short was made as a final year project in cooperation with HTBLVA Spengergasse. Year 2020/21
In the 2D-animated short “Mochi”, the Japanese dessert of the same name symbolizes family and friendship. With a setting in Europe, the story follows a Japanese teenage girl named Milli, who lives with her grandma. Just after Millis grandma is brought to the hospital, she is greeted by her newly arrived neighbor, Nala. To comfort her dear grandma, Milli plans to make Mochi – which her grandma used to make her when she was feeling down – without the slightest clue how.
Since this project was started and finished during the pandemic which drastically affected our school life, it was a good practise in teamworking remote, and scheduling and managing a project so it gets done in the short timeframe without being able to plan much face to face.
My Parts in this Project were:
Development of story, character design, set design, background illustrations, character animation clean-up, composition.
Frame by frame animation and illustrations were done in Adobe Photoshop, compositing and arrangement was done in Adobe After Effects.

About Me
Hi, I’m Emily!
I am an Austrian illustrator and animator. This is my personal website which I use to showcase my portfolio and my projects.
Previously I have been a student at HTL Spengergasse in Vienna (which is a technical college that I graduated from with a Matura Diploma), where I studied Animation and Media Design. There I learned animation basics and how to use video editing software (for example Adobe After Effects and Premiere). In 2023 I graduated from the BA Illustration course at University of Derby in the United Kingdom.
I mainly work with digital pixel based illustration, for which I either use Krita (which is my go to, because it’s free, available on my Android Tablet and works for me), Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Photoshop. Usually I like drawing characters, and recently scenes with multiple characters in them.
When I work traditionally, I like using aquarelle and coloured pencils.
